Man charged with stunt driving, impaired after Hwy. 11 stop: OPP

A man who sped past an officer conducting "speed enforcement" on Highway 11 is facing multiple charges.

Huntsville OPP say that on Thursday, just before midnight, officers were conducting speed enforcement on a stretch of Highway 11 in Huntsville when a vehicle was clocked travelling 164 km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone.

"Upon speaking with the driver, police were led into an impaired driving investigation and an approved screening device (ASD) demand was made," notes a media release from the OPP.

After being arrested and transported to detachment for further testing, Zackary Smith, 30, of Huntsville was charged with operation while impaired (blood alcohol concentration 80 plus), stunt driving and being a novice driver with blood alcohol concentration above zero.

Smith's licence was automatically suspended for 90 days and his vehicle has been impounded for 14 days.

Smith will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on June 18, 2024 to answer to the charges.
