Midland firefighters responded to a reported boat fire at Bay Port Yachting Centre Wednesday.
According to Southern Georgian Bay OPP, the fire occurred at the marina's 'A' pier. When fire crews arrived on the scene at 1 p.m., they found the 40-foot Sea Ray fully engulfed.
The fire is not considered suspicious and no one was injured. However, the $200,000 vessel is now sunk and a total loss, according to the OPP.
While other details remain sparse since no one is allowed in the marina due to the current stay-at-home order, large plumes of heavy black smoke could be seen across Midland harbour.
A firefighter on scene declined to comment when asked by MidlandToday about the blaze.
Fire crews left the scene at about 3 p.m.
In a note to patrons, Bay Port said the boat was in the water and the owner was on the property at the time of the fire.
"Thankfully no one was injured as our staff and the local fire department were quick to respond to the situation," the marina said in the email. "Any collateral damage to the dock in the vicinity of the fire will be repaired by our crew once deemed safe."
