Local man arrested in connection to intimate partner violence incidents

The Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) executed a warrant on an address in Barrie in respect to intimate partner violence occurrences that originated in the Township of Essa.

On May 2, members of the Nottawasaga OPP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU), with the assistance of Barrie Police Tactical Unit, executed a warrant on a residence on Glenwood Drive in Barrie.

A 39-year-old male from Barrie, was held pending a bail hearing for the following charges:

  • Assault causing bodily harm - two counts
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Harassing communications
  • Uttering threats - two counts
  • Extorsion
  • Intimidation - use or threatens use of violence
  • Fail to comply with prohibition order
  • Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order

The Nottawasaga OPP Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) is a specialized unit tasked with the mandate of identifying, targeting, and apprehending individuals involved in high-priority criminal activities, including those wanted on outstanding warrants.
