Two people are facing robbery and weapon charges after a firearm was seized when police were executing a search warrant at an Orillia residence in March.
Police were looking for drugs when the warrant was executed, but they found an illegal firearm, according to an Orillia OPP news release issued Saturday.
Police learned the gun had been stolen in the fall of 2023 from a vehicle parked in the north end of Orillia. The victim was assaulted before the firearm was stolen. The gun was later sold to people who did not have a licence to possess.
David Shirk, 37, of Ramara, has been charged with trafficking in a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, robbery with violence, possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order, and failure to comply with a release order.
Ashlee Rusby, 29, of Orillia, has been charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, robbery with violence, and failure to comply with a release order
Both were held in custody pending a bail hearing.
