NEWS RELEASE
NORTH SIMCOE MUSKOKA AND DISTRICT LABOUR COUNCIL
*************************
Voters in Simcoe, Muskoka, Parry Sound, and surrounding areas have another tool to help them in selecting which candidates they will support in the upcoming municipal election.
The North Simcoe Muskoka and District Labour Council (NSMDLC) has released a list of ‘worker-friendly’ candidates who they are endorsing as voters head to the polls on or before Oct. 24.
President Mike De Rose shared that workers from all corners of the region came together to network and share information from their town or district about candidates. Coupled with the organization’s candidate survey, and speaking to community leaders around the region, De Rose is confident that the endorsed candidates “are best suited to make meaningful and valuable change which will impact positively on regular families and workers.”
“We believe in progressive and bold candidates who don’t shy away from tough issues, and who are willing to advocate for the needs in their communities. These candidates support sustainability, diversity, responsible government, and policies that raise the floor for the most vulnerable citizens, rather than raise the ceiling for the wealthy.”
As of today, citizens may visit www.nsmdlc.org to find out which candidates are endorsed in their local district, council, mayoral, or trustee races.
“This provides our communities with another tool to help them be informed about municipal elections. They may not get the same press as provincial or federal elections, but they are in many cases even more important,” said Amylee Patterson, executive member of the NSMDLC. “Affordable housing is tied to zoning. Paramedic services are half-funded by the municipal government, not to mention services and social infrastructure. Our municipal leaders need to be visionary and forward-thinking.”
The NSMDLC is committed to advocating for workers, their families, and their communities.
