York Regional Police sincerely thanks members of the public and the media after five-year-old Jannah Jaffri, who police believe was abducted from her school by her father, was located unharmed.
On Tuesday, March 19, 2019, just before 6 p.m., police received a call from a store owner, in the area of Rodick Road and Hwy. 7, who had seen the Amber Alert and indicated he could see Jannah and her father nearby. Responding officers quickly located Jannah, who was in good health.
Her father, Soloman Jaffri, was taken into custody without incident. The investigation is ongoing.
Earlier in the day, at approximately 3 p.m., police responded to Armadale Public School located at 11 Coppard Avenue in Markham, after school staff reported that Jannah was abducted by her father.
“We are very grateful to our community and members of the media, whose assistance following the Amber Alert resulted in Jannah being located safe and sound,” said Chief Eric Jolliffe. “The efforts of our members and from all our partners, including neighbouring police agencies, brought this to a successful conclusion and they have my thanks.”

York Regional Police is seeking public assistance to locate five-year-old Jannah Jaffri who police believe was abducted from her school by her father.
A provincewide Amber alert was issued at about 5:10 p.m.
On Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at approximately 3 p.m., police responded to Armadale Public School located at 11 Coppard Ave. in Markham, after school staff called to report that a five-year-old Jannah Jaffri was abducted from her classroom by her father, Soloman Jaffri, who is not supposed to have access to the child.
There were seen getting into a mini-van taxi.

- Jannah Jaffri
- Female, five years
- Brown skin, 4’ tall
- Light brown, shoulder-length hair, brown eyes
- Wearing a pink sweater, white tank top, grey leggings, navy blue coat and carrying a sparkly white unicorn backpack
- Soloman Jaffri
- Male, 25
- Brown skin
- 6’1”, average build
- Short brown hair
- Tattoo that says “Jannah” on right arm
- Wearing navy blue dress coat and black cargo pants
