The Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte NDP riding association has announced Sarah Lochhead as the party’s candidate in next month's federal election.
Lochhead is a mother, community builder and dance artist "who is passionate about the role the arts play in both personal and community development," according to a news release issued Saturday morning.
She is the founder of Simcoe Contemporary Dancers, a not-for-profit professional dance company based in Barrie, where she now serves as an artistic consultant.
Lochhead holds a bachelor of fine arts (Honours) in dance and a master of arts in dance studies from York University.
“This election is our chance to build a better future for everyone,” Lochhead said in a press release. “A brighter future where we address long-standing inequalities. One where your life is more affordable, and the wealthiest pay their fair share. A future with truly universal health care, good jobs, and help when you need it. A future where our communities can confront the climate crisis while building a green economy. New Democrats are ready for better. Canadians are ready for better.”
The federal election is set for Sept. 20.
