Pam Carter has been a critical driving force behind the Mariposa Folk Foundation and its flagship event, the Mariposa Festival, since 2009.
For the last 15 years, she has been instrumental in the festival’s tremendous success — breaking ticket sale records at each of the last three festivals and increasing attendance by over 60 per cent.
“If there are a thousand elements that go into running a festival, Pam is on top of all one thousand of those elements,” said Chris Hazel, Office Manager for the Mariposa Folk Foundation.
Carter grappled with COVID-19-related cancellations, which decimated much of the live music and events industry, and steered Mariposa through the rough waters with grace. Under her leadership, Mariposa produced virtual concerts, tapped its rich archives to create digital musical episodes and ran donation drives to support artists and production professionals.
Carter sees the value in nurturing and building community relationships to help maintain the festival. She is always working on including more organizations, individuals and incorporating new ideas to provide a better experience for Mariposa Festival attendees year after year.
Her tireless work ethic and dedication to the festival has brought tourism to the region and has helped the local art community truly flourish.
The Arts award goes to an individual or group that has helped make the artistic community stronger. They have championed an individual, an event, an idea, an ethic, or philosophy.
Congratulations, Pam!
