Porter Airlines deferring resumption of service until at least July 29

Airline has said it's waiving change and cancellation fees on fares booked between May 26 and July 29; Service to Muskoka will be impacted

Porter Airlines won’t resume flight service until July 29 due to ongoing COVID-19 travel restrictions.

The Toronto-based airline suspended flights on March 20 at the outset of the pandemic and had planned to resume operations on June 1. It then extended the suspension again, until June 29.

“We want to see our planes in the sky as soon as possible and are actively working to prepare for our resumption of service. However, the ongoing uncertainty presented by government travel restrictions, including border closures, is impacting our ability to operate flights,” said Michael Deluce, president and CEO of Porter Airlines, in a May 26 news release.

“We are closely watching developments and know that Porter will be an important part of providing people with travel options as the economy recovers.”

The airline said the decision also impacts summer service to Muskoka, Ont., and Stephenville, N.L.

In preparation for return to service, Porter said it’s introducing enhanced health and safety measures, which will be announced as the date for resumption of service nears, so that its plans are “as closely aligned with the latest public health recommendations as possible.”

The airline said it’s waiving change and cancellation fees on all fares booked between May 26 and July 29.

In Northern Ontario, Porter offers service to Thunder Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury, and Timmins.
