The Orillia Terriers played poor host to 60 teams this past weekend at the annual Jim Wilson Orillia Terriers Hockey Tournament, winning five of the eight divisions being played.

The Orillia Terriers had six finalists, winning five, another in the semi-finals and U12 Jim Wilson Chevrolet Buick Terriers who came up unlucky in a strong division.

All five winning Terrier teams went undefeated for the weekend against strong competition from all over Ontario. Teams attending the tournament came from all corners of Ontario, as far away as Essex in Southwestern Ontario to Temiskaming in Eastern Ontario.

There were a total of 109 games played in eight divisions over the weekend.

The Rama First Nation U14 Terriers and the Mid Ontario Disposal U13 Terriers needed shootouts over Barrie Blue and Oro, respectively, to take their respective divisions.

The U10 Julie Emery RBC Mortgages Terriers paraded through their division, demolishing the competition with 28 goals for and only three against.

The U16 Scotiabank Terriers needed to see off the Perth Blue Wings twice in order to take the crown.

The U11 Burton Team of Investment Counsel had the toughest road of the Terrier teams to their championship, finally defeating a strong team from Temiskaming to be crowned tournament champions.

Unfortunately, the U18 Team Micks Terriers dropped a close 3-2 finals to the top team in the province from Hespeler. The U15 Royal Canadian Legion #34 slipped up in the semis versus local rival Midland.

The Orillia Minor Hockey Association is proud to have hosted so many teams in Orillia last weekend at the Jim Wilson Orillia Minor Hockey Tournament.

We would like to thank tournament host and organizer Mike Borelli. The Jim Willson Orillia Terriers tournament would not have been possible without the City of Orillia's assistance, the arena staff at Rotary Place, Brian Orser and the Rama MASK for maintaining such great ice, and all the referees, timekeepers and volunteers that made it a great weekend for all the players from Orillia and other communities.

It was great to see all the hockey smiles return to Orillia after such a long time without.

Steve Fagan, president
