The following letter is in response to a letter about the closing of safe consumption sites, published Aug. 25.

Ken Robertson’s recent letter provided a first-rate analysis of the contradiction between drug and alcohol addictions, and how the Ford administration is clearly making a distinction between acceptable and non-acceptable addictions, even though they are both potentially destructive.

There is yet another addiction that appears to be acceptable to the provincial government; namely, gambling. Mr. Ford and his government are making it all the easier to place bets and buy lottery tickets, and for some people this will have dire consequences. But, again, some addictions are, apparently, more acceptable than others.
