A ‘roller-rink’ and an electric vehicle have more in common than you may think.

“Active means of transportation” like roller-skating and electric vehicles are also emission-free ways of getting around. It may be a bit of a stretch, but a roller-skating rink could well be the ideal venue for this year’s All-Electric Vehicle Weekend, and we at Sustainable Orillia are always happy to highlight emission-free alternatives.

On the Aug. 5-6 weekend, we hope you will join us at the ODAS Park Roller Rink for the 5th Annual All-Electric Vehicle Weekend – hosted by Sustainable Orillia. It’s a no-pressure, family-friendly environment where you can learn more about the full range of electric vehicles available in our region.

From cars to boats to bikes — even snow blowers and lawn mowers — for all things electric on display there will be experts on hand to walk you through the benefits of electrifying your ride.

The transition to electrification of vehicles and machines is moving rapidly from the margin to mainstream and for good reason. There’s an awakening across all categories that emission-free vehicles are the way of the future. More and more consumers are planning and making the switch – as more and more options, greater affordability and yes, accessible infrastructure comes onto the market. This appears to be the right time to explore, consider and plan for your own step into an emissions-free ride.

This is the fifth year in a row that Sustainable Orillia is presenting the All-Electric Vehicle Weekend. The free event promises to be bigger and more comprehensive this year – thanks in large part to our sponsors: Orillia Kia, Super E-Bikes, Raymond James, Green Storage and CIBC.

Plug’n Drive will be back on-site, offering attendees the chance to test-drive an electric vehicle. With a wide range of car dealers on hand, there will be plenty of options to consider. Dealers on-site will include Orillia Kia, Subaru of Orillia, Orillia Volkswagen, Thor Motors (Ford), HWY 11 Chrysler, Tesla, VinFast Auto Canada and Orillia Mazda.

If you are interested in marine vehicles, MPS MPW Enterprises and Create Your Wave, both from the Muskoka area, will be there. If you are in the market for a bicycle, an e-bike or scooter, Super E-Bikes, Orillia Power Sports and Orillia Motor Sports will be important booths to visit. For those looking to sustainably maintain their lawns, Kubota North will be presenting its line of electric lawn appliances and more. Something for everyone!

This year’s displays and demonstrations are designed to raise awareness of zero- and low-emission transportation. The event directly supports “Big Move #2 – Transportation” from the City of Orillia’s climate action plan, Orillia’s Climate Future.

The event has been expanded this year to include vendors and expertise in related areas – such as Orser Technical Services, who will be on-site to discuss solar panels and power walls.

Another new addition to our on-site team is Electrical Elite Inc. who will be there to provide advice on the logistics of charging your new EV at home. Undor will be present and is looking forward to sharing information on their creative routing solutions for charging cables, while Napoleon will be on-hand to showcase and answer questions on their heat pump line. Definitely, something for everyone!

The all-Electric Vehicle Weekend is a comprehensive, diverse, and not-to-be-missed opportunity for all of us to explore our own “electrifying” options. Come out to ODAS park. See and learn. Test a wide range of electric vehicles. Enter a silent auction for a number of items (bids will close at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 6).

Watch for more information in the weeks ahead. Plan to join us Aug. 5-6 to learn first-hand from the experts about the latest developments in sustainable transportation technology.

See you at “the rink.” We look forward to greeting you there.
