Are you ready to hit the dance floor in support of a local charity?

The Hawaiian Glow Party at ODAS Park is hoping to raise $10,000 for Orillia's Green Haven Shelter for Women.

The July 27 event is being organized by Derick Lehmann, who headed up the previous three Back to '90s Video Dance Party events at ODAS Park.

Lehmann says Green Haven is in need of support.

"They are an important part of the community," he said. "We need a place like that right now because sometimes people need support. I want to help them help others."

He says it's important for men in the community to "give a hand up" to vulnerable women.

"Whether you are male or female, you should have that attitude," he said. "We need to support these people who need a little bit of help."

While the '90s Video Dance Party was successful in raising money for The Sharing Place Food Centre, for children in need of Christmas presents, and to provide bicycles to kids, Lehmann says it's time to mix up the beneficiary of the event and introduce a new theme for the party.

"People still love the '90s music," he said, "but I've been hearing from a lot of people who want to get some '80s music in there. I'm also hearing from younger people who want a nightclub vibe."

The Hawaiian Glow Party will feature music from the '80s, '90s and now.

"It's going to be a mix of decades and all different genres of music," Lehmann said.

Kahuna Surf Shop and Tiki Escapes are helping to transform The Roller Skating Place into a Hawaiian paradise for the event. Lehmann urges party goers should wear leis, sun dresses, and colourful Hawaiian shirts.

"All the neon and white colours are really going to stand out and glow brightly," he said.

The event is open to those 19 and older.

"At the '90s party, we had a guy who just turned 19, like, three days before," he said with a chuckle. "We've also had seniors come, too. They like to listen to the music and bop around a little and have some fun."

Tickets are available for $20 in advance, through the event’s website or at AlleyCats Music & Art in downtown Orillia. (Cash only.)

Tickets will also be available for $25 at the doors when they open at 8 p.m. Groups of 10 or more should reach out to Lehmann for a special discount.
