NEWS RELEASE
STORYTELLING ORILLIA
**********************
Storytelling Orillia invites you to a celebration of Canadian Storytelling Day with guest teller Tim Greenwood on Nov. 24, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Creative Nomad Studios, 23 Mississaga St. W. It’s all about being brave.
From Newmarket, Greenwood’s life has been full of adventure and story, and this year, both his life and the telling of his story have required a lot of bravery.
So, the local storytelling group has invited him to speak about courage, the theme of this year’s Canadian Storytelling Day, celebrated annually in November.
Greenwood is a long-time friend of Storytelling Orillia and has been a featured teller at the Mariposa Folk Festival for many years. He also tells the stories of Stephen Leacock.
Canadian Storytelling Day originated in Orillia in 2012 and now is being celebrated in many areas across Canada through Storytellers of Canada – Conteurs du Canada (SC-CC), storytelling’s national arts organization.
SC-CC is currently basing themes for this national day on the Anishinaabe/Algonquin tradition of the Seven Grandfather Teachings: Wisdom, Love, Respect, Courage, Honesty, Humility and Truth. Over the next several years, all seven teachings will be explored, one at a time. The cycle started with Humility in 2022, and Wisdom in 2023.
Storytelling Orillia is grateful for the guidance of Elder Mark Douglas, of the Chippewas of Rama First Nation, who will open the November story circle by speaking about the teaching of bravery, before introducing Greenwood.
Jan MacFarland is the host of this month’s circle.
Anyone who comes is invited to tell a short story, on any theme. If you are brave enough to join in, please email [email protected].
