NEWS RELEASE
SAVESTATION
*************************
Sharon Boyle and her family are proud to announce the placement of an outdoor SaveStation at Horseshoe Resort, Oro-Medonte. M
ounted on the outside of the Ski Chalet, the Memorial SaveStation houses a life-saving Automated External Defibrillator (AED) that is clearly marked for public use. Through a successful crowdfunding campaign, the Boyle family raised over $18,000 to place four commemorative SaveStations within their community. Two other SaveStations have already been placed at the Baywood South Animal Hospital in Barrie and the Midhurst Pharmasave/Wellness Centre in Midhurst.
These SaveStations were placed in loving memory of beloved husband and father, Randy Boyle, who passed away from a sudden cardiac arrest in 2014. He left behind his wife, Sharon, and their two children Bailey, 28, and Teagan, 25. Now, they are turning that loss into something positive for their community, providing public access to life-saving AEDs.
Horseshoe Resort was selected for the personal connection it holds for the Boyles, as Randy and Sharon’s wedding venue over 30 years ago. It was also where they often skied as a family, and Bailey worked at Treetop Trekking at Horseshoe for several years. The Horseshoe Resort SaveStation also features a photo and memorial plaque in honour of Randy’s memory.
Horseshoe Resort is inspired to become a model cardiac safe environment for the thousands of people who work, live, visit and play there. The SaveStations on the grounds provide quick access to AEDs, which anyone can use to save a life in the event of a Sudden Cardiac Arrest. As a four-season attraction, the ventilation and heating capabilities of the outdoor SaveStations mean that the AEDs inside are accessible 24/7, year round.
This cabinet keeps the AED warm in the winter and cool in the summer. The technology built into this SaveStation also allows for 24/7 monitoring of the AED to ensure it is always ‘ready for rescue’ and will take a picture when the cabinet is opened. This technology has been around in Europe for over 10 years now, and SaveStation is proudly bringing this life-saving equipment to North America.
A three-season SaveStation will also be placed at Horseshoe Resort as part of the Randy Boyle memorial campaign. It will be stationed at the beach in the summer, and then move to a chair lift enclosure at the top of the ski hill during the winter.
