We have 26 homes on our road, West Canal Road, where we get to enjoy the beauty of the Severn River year round. There are some seasonal homes, but most are permanent and most residents are retired.

As we sat around a COVID-friendly bonfire a few weeks ago, one of the neighbours showed up on their side-by-side with Christmas decorations on it. Someone said, "Hey, we should have a parade!" And the rest is history.

We had 13 participants on ATVs, side-by-sides, tractors and a shiny red Corvette to lead us all on Saturday. Then it snowed, making the perfect setting for our little endeavour.

We had put little flyers in the mailboxes of everyone on Canal Road and asked them to kindly make a donation to the food bank in exchange for our entertainment. When I turned the corner onto Canal Road, I couldn’t have been more pleased. Almost every household was at the end of their driveway with bags and boxes of food. We gathered 654 pounds of food that will be delivered to The Sharing Place Food Centre.

We posted pictures on Facebook and some of the Canal Road residents did as well and the feedback and comments have been so positive.

I think that we made a lot of people happy on Saturday, including all the residents on West Canal Road.
