NEWS RELEASE
ONTARIO WINTER GAMES
*************************
Athletes who compete in the 2020 Ontario Winter Games in Orillia this winter will remember their experience for a lifetime.
The Games Organizing Committee is looking for an artist who can capture that experience on a mural that will serve as a lasting legacy to the province’s largest multi-sport event for youths.
“We are looking for an artist to create an 8’ x 12’ mural that encapsulates the theme ‘Inspired: The Road to Gold’ for the 2020 Ontario Winter Games (OWG),” said Jacqueline Sozcka, who serves as the City’s Manager of Culture and also is a member of the Games Organizing Committee.
Leading up to the Games, participants will be asked to share the people, places and moments that helped shape their sporting career and inspired them to go for gold. This information will be provided to the artist to inform the piece, and could be incorporated both figuratively and literally.
“The vision is to create a simple, yet powerful image that exemplifies these experiences and speaks to what inspired the 2020 OWG athletes to reach for the podium,” said Jed Levene, the Chair of the Games Organizing Committee.
This competition is open to all artists residing in Canada; however, preference will be given to local/regional artists.
The deadline to submit a proposal is Jan. 17, 2020. Submissions must include the following:
- Name of Artist(s)
- Contact information: address, phone number and email.
- Short bio of participating artist(s)
- Three (3) examples of past work that best illustrates the Artist’s ability to complete the project, including images of installed work and a short written description of each.
- Three (3) references of past projects that are comparable in nature.
