CHRISTIAN ISLAND – Deputy Youth Chief Lance Copegog has issued the following statement on behalf of the Beausoleil First Nation Youth Council regarding the election of Glen Hare as Grand Council Chief of the Anishinabek Nation:
On June 6th, 2018, I was pleased to witness the election of Glen Hare as Grand Council Chief of the Anishinabek Nation. He has served as Deputy Grand Council Chief and Chief of M’chigeeng First Nation. His election is a testament to his proven leadership and ability to bring about change across the Anishinabek Nation.
The Beausoleil First Nation Youth Council looks forward to working with Grand Council Chief Hare on issues of importance to the youth of Beausoleil First Nation. Issues around health, governance, and youth participation must be addressed immediately.
We also pay tribute to former Grand Council Chief Patrick Madahbee, who has served in his position faithfully for a number of years. Patrick Madahbee was a mentor to the Beausoleil First Nation Youth Council and a constant source of support. We will miss his leadership, but wish him the best in his well-deserved retirement.”
Grand Council Chief Glen Hare will serve the Anishinabek Nation well. We wish him the best in the work that he will do on our behalf.”
Chief James R. Marsden of Alderville First Nation was also acclaimed as Regional Deputy Grand Council Chief for the Southeast Region of the Anishinabek Nation, where Beausoleil First Nation is located.
The Beausoleil First Nation Youth Council represents the youth of the First Nation, advocates on their behalf, and creates a vision for the future.
