Canadian Blood Services is seeking donors for two upcoming clinics in Orillia at a time of year when the need is high.

During the winter, storms, illness and holidays tend to lead to an increase in cancelled appointments, the organization said.

“The need for blood and plasma is constant. Your life-saving donation makes all the difference. Your blood or plasma donation this winter will have a major impact on patients in your community and across the country.

“For many patients, plasma is the only treatment. Medication made from plasma saves lives. Each year, it takes thousands of donors to save the lives of patients across Canada.”

Those with an O-negative blood type are urged to donate regularly as that type of blood can be given to any patient.

“In emergency situations, when there’s no time to confirm a patient’s blood type, O-negative blood can mean the difference between life and death. O-negative blood is always in high demand and short supply.”

The clinics will take place Feb. 8 from 1 to 7 p.m. and Feb. 12 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Best Western Plus Mariposa Inn and Conference Centre, 400 Memorial Ave.

Appointments are required and can be made on the GiveBlood app, by calling 1-888-236-6283 or at blood.ca. Same-day appointments are often available.
