Power restored to most homes in Orillia (UPDATE)

Power outage was caused by a hydro pole fire near the intersection of Coldwater Road and Westmount Drive

Power has been restored to most homes in Orillia.

According to Hydro One, there was a hydro pole fire near the intersection of Coldwater Road and Westmount Drive. Power first flickered and then went out at about 6:25 p.m.

Officials said restoration would be complete by 9 p.m. However, for most people, the power came back on at around 7:40 p.m.

At its height, the outage impacted almost 7,000 homes from the downtown to west Orillia. By 8:15 p.m. the power was still out for less than 300 homes, according to the Hydro One website.

A power outage affecting more than 6,000 customers in Orillia is under investigation by Hydro One.

According to the utility's outage map, power is estimated to be restored by 9 p.m.

The main outage on Thursday showed it was affecting 6,716 customers as of around 7:20 p.m.

There were also smaller outages reported.
