It wasn’t Orillia’s typical Canada Day parade, but a group of car enthusiasts wended their way through the city Thursday in their own procession.
“We’ve been in isolation and lockdown so long that we decided, ‘Hey, let’s honour our seniors and also Indigenous people who have lost so much,’” said Barb Shakell, who helped organize the event. “We all decided we were going to celebrate and honour, and that’s what it’s all about — the achievements of Canada as well as the downfalls of Canada.”
More than 20 vehicles were driven to retirement and long-term care homes to put on a display for residents.
“The seniors were just loving it,” Shakell said.
