Canal Road Christmas parade a snowy success (11 photos)

The festive event collected 813 pounds of food and more than $700 in cash for the Sharing Place Food Centre in Orillia

The second annual West Canal Road Christmas Parade was even more successful than the first.

The calls started in November from residents on Canal Road asking if we were planning another parade. The little home-made flyers went into mailboxes asking for a donation for The Sharing Place Food Centre in return for the entertainment we would provide.

That and some great promoting from local township councillor, Jim McIntyre, certainly helped ensure the event's success. Even Deputy Mayor Jane Dunlop joined in to show her support.

Once again, Mother Nature provided us the perfect background for a holiday parade. The snow was actually a welcome sight for the 14 vehicles in this little home-grown festivity.

There was no lack of imagination in the way local resident's ATV’s, tractors and cars were decorated; much effort went into this.

And it was all worth all of the effort. On Monday morning, organizers delivered 813 pounds of food and $720 to The Sharing Place in Orillia.

A huge thank you to Bob and Jennifer Bower for their tireless promotion and organizing of this community event.

The West Canal Road residents are a great group of friends and neighbours who are always up for fun…even better if it involves helping someone.

Watch for those little home-made flyers in your mailboxes next year!
