NEWS RELEASE
ORILLIA CONCERT BAND
***************************
The Orillia Concert Band opens the 2018 Christmas season with two Christmas concerts at St. Paul’s Centre on Saturday, Dec. 1.
First, at 3:30 p.m, the band and the Samuel de Champlain children's choir welcome Santa to town in a family-oriented concert. Together they will perform Dream in the Silent Night and Rudolph and the Red-Nosed Reindeer. As well, lively tunes like We Wish You a Mambo Christmas and Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas is You are sure to awaken the Christmas spirit.
The afternoon is brief preview of what’s to come later that evening as Christmas Prelude begins at 7:30 p.m. The St. Paul's Chancel Choir led by Blair Bailey will accompany the Orillia Concert Band as they perform together some favourites including Do You Hear What I Hear? and Christmas on Broadway. You’ll also hear the Orillia Concert Band’s rendition of Edward Elgar’s famous Nimrod and Percy Grainger’s Sussex Mummers’ Carol. A traditional sing-along on both sides of the intermission will certainly bring back memories of neighbourhood carolling.
Speaking of intermission, please bring some pocket change as tasty goodies will be provided by the Patrick Fogarty Catholic Secondary School band as it raises money for its 2019 trip to Carnegie Hall.
Tickets are available at the door. Family pricing is available for both concerts. Check out our new website for details or visit the Orillia Concert Band Facebook page.
The Orillia Concert Band is directed by James Hilts and rehearses Monday evenings at Patrick Fogarty Catholic Secondary School. If you like what you hear, and are interested in playing with the band, email [email protected].
