CANADIAN FEDERATION OF UNIVERSITY WOMEN ORILLIA

Canadian Federation of University Women Orillia will welcome members, dignitaries and guests to their Annual Banquet May 14 at Hawk Ridge Golf Course.
The banquet is a celebration of the year’s events and a recognition event for the five local homeowners who will be opening their doors for CFUW’s Annual Homes Tour and Tea on June 2.
The Homes Tour is the club’s major fundraiser with the money raised providing post-secondary scholarships to female graduates of Orillia high schools, including the Learning Centre.
This year’s event will also include a presentation from Laura Crawford-Awrey, a Masters student from Lakehead University. She was the winner of CFUW Orillia’s Centennial Essay Contest.
The contest was created in conjunction with the Canadian Federation of University Women celebrating its 100th year of existence. The contest was open to all female students currently enrolled in a postsecondary school located in Orillia, Ontario.
The prize was a monetary scholarship of $1,000, meant to help finance continued education.
The evening will close with an entertaining and educating performance from the Orillia Silver Band Ensemble.
Last year, the Ensemble was formed from the larger Orillia Silver Band, with the purpose to educate audiences on the history and style of classic British style brass bands.
Neil Barlow, a highly regarded musician and conductor in the U.S. and Canada, leads the Ensemble. Barlow was the original conductor of the award winning Michigan Five Lakes Silver Band.
