NEWS RELEASE
CITY OF ORILLIA
*************************
In an effort to further ‘cOnnect’ our city and encourage sustainable transportation in our community, the City of Orillia is happy to announce four free transit days taking place in 2024.
“Providing free transit days aims to encourage new users to experience the convenience and environmental benefits of our public transit system,” said Mayor Don McIsaac. “These transit days are one of several initiatives to encourage ridership and the use of sustainable transportation in Orillia, along with a new senior rate and a free teen pass pilot. We encourage everyone to come out and ride the bus.”
The following dates have been selected for free service through Orillia Transit:
- March 13, 2024
Take advantage of free transit to access many exciting programs happening around the city in the middle of March break. For more information on March break programming available at the Orillia Recreation Centre visit orillia.ca/active and for programming information for the Orillia Public Library visit orilliapubliclibrary.ca.
- April 22, 2024
Reduce your carbon footprint by riding Orillia Transit on Earth Day. By opting for free transit, you will help to decrease the number of individual vehicles on the road, thus lowering harmful emissions that contribute to air pollution and climate change.
- June 5, 2024
World Environment Day serves as a global reminder of our responsibility to protect and preserve our planet. Choosing to ride transit on this day promotes sustainable transportation practices that will directly contribute to conserving the environment.
- Nov. 10, 2024
Public transportation provides a convenient, safe, and reliable way to travel across the City of Orillia, Simcoe County and beyond. Help celebrate World Public Transport Day on Nov. 10 by using public transportation.
As recommended by the Orillia transit advisory committee, Orillia council approved funding as part of the 2024 budget process to provide four free transit days in Orillia as a way to encourage transit ridership and active transportation practices. Sponsorship opportunities to support free transit days in Orillia are available to businesses and organizations. Interested businesses can contact 705-325-3975 or [email protected] to learn more.
Transit will be available to all riders free of cost for the duration of service on each of the above-mentioned days.
