NEWS RELEASE
CITY OF ORILLIA
**************************
After more than 30 years with the City of Orillia, Jim Lang, City Treasurer, is retiring this year.

Lang started his career with the City of Orillia in January 1990 as the Deputy Treasurer. He was appointed Interim City Treasurer in 2011 and then City Treasurer in 2012, at the helm of the city’s Treasury Department.

“Mr. Lang’s municipal finance experience and insight has been a major asset to the City,” said Mayor Steve Clarke. “Over 30 years of service to our City has done nothing to diminish Jim’s passion and work ethic. On behalf of Council, I would like to thank him for his guidance and his service, and wish him all the best in his retirement.”

“Mr. Lang has served the City of Orillia for three decades with the utmost integrity and professionalism,” said Gayle Jackson, Chief Administrative Officer. “On behalf of City staff and the Senior Leadership Team, I would like to thank Mr. Lang for his valuable contributions and dedication to the corporation and I wish him a very happy, well-deserved retirement.”

“Over my 35 year career in municipal finance, including 30 years in Orillia, I have been a part of many changes and worked with countless great people. While the projects and progress we have accomplished are important, most memorable to me has been seeing staff grow and use their skills to help make the City the great place that it is. While it is with mixed feelings that I announce my retirement, I am looking forward to the future,” said Lang.

Mr. Lang’s official last day will be Aug. 31, 2020, but he will be staying with the municipality on contract until December 2020 in order to assist with a smooth transition of financial services to the new Corporate Services/Legal Department as part of the future-focused organization structure.
