The impact of the opioid crisis, a rise in addictions and the effects of the pandemic have rippled across our community.

Our local Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Simcoe County has proven its unwavering commitment to combating these issues with its dedicated efforts on the front lines.

CMHA has worked tirelessly to provide services to youth and adults with substance abuse issues and concerned family members or friends affected by addiction. The ongoing opioid poisoning crisis has required continued coordinated action from mental health, health care and social service providers, police and educators within our community.

“CMHA Simcoe County has been an active supporter for the community-based mental health and addiction treatment services and a vital contributor to the ongoing opioid crisis planning for the region,” said Mia Brown, Chair of the Simcoe Muskoka Opioid Strategy.

“We were completely unaware of our nomination, so it was a delightful surprise to learn of it,” said Meredith Fryia, manager of addiction services with CMHA Simcoe County. ”We would like to express our immense gratitude for this wonderful recognition.”

“It's a tremendous honour to see the dedication of our CMHA programs acknowledged by the Orillia community. This recognition truly reflects the unrelenting efforts of our direct service staff, who work daily to address the needs of our community despite challenges,” she said.

CMHA is hopeful that Simcoe County residents will be able to easily access high-quality mental health and addiction services that respond to their unique circumstances.

“As we introduce new and innovative models of care such as our Mobile Withdrawal Management Services and Outreach Addictions, our priority is to remain adaptive and responsive to the needs of our community,” Meredith said.

The Health Care Award is presented to an individual or group that has had an important impact on the health care of the community.

Congratulations to the team at the Canadian Mental Health Association Simcoe County!

This award is proudly sponsored by The Stride Clinic.
