Bruce Duncan is a true unsung hero, going above and beyond to help those who are less fortunate.

He worked as the operations manager at The Sharing Place in Orillia for five years, helping members access food and leading a team of volunteers.

“I was absolutely surprised when I heard about this award. I was just doing my job. It was the best job I’ve ever had,” said Bruce. “It was a wonderful opportunity to work with people from all walks of life, where everyone was treated the same. I really enjoyed that.”

Bruce is a workhorse with a big heart and an incredible sense of humour, who will never say no to helping someone in need. He sets a high standard when it comes to work ethic, usually being the first person to arrive and the last to leave, often going in on his days off to help out.

“Not only is Bruce the hardest working person I know — he is also one of the kindest,” said Chris Peacock, Executive Director of The Sharing Place. “He is always joking around with our members and volunteers and making sure people are seen and listened to. He is never in a bad mood and creates a positive hard-working culture.”

Along with providing access to nutritious food, he has provided smiles to thousands of people when they needed it the most.

“Some people have a bit more than others, so let’s share what we can with the rest of the community,” Bruce added.

The Unsung Hero award is presented to an individual or group whose tireless work and/or volunteer efforts in our community seek to improve the lives of others. The recipient has created a positive impact in our community both now and for the future.

Congratulations, Bruce!

This award is proudly sponsored by the Braestone Club.
