The community is warmly invited to attend the annual Garden of Remembrance, a community memorial ceremony, taking place on June 25 at Couchiching Beach Park.

This special event offers a serene and heartfelt opportunity to come together to honour and remember loved ones.

Ceremony details

  • Date: June 25, 2024
  • Time: 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Location: Garden of Remembrance, Couchiching Beach Park, Orillia (located near the greenhouse)
  • RSVP: hospiceorillia.ca/garden
  • Cost: free

“We look forward to gathering with the community in this meaningful ceremony, creating a tapestry of love, remembrance, and hope. Together, we can honour the past, cherish the present, and look forward to the future with compassion and solidarity,” said Louise Brazier, bereavement services co-ordinator.

The Garden of Remembrance ceremony is a time for reflection, support, and unity, providing a beautiful and peaceful setting where attendees can share memories, find solace, and celebrate the lives of those who have touched their hearts. We are especially looking forward to returning to the garden at Couchiching Beach Park and getting our hands in the dirt as we plant flowers in remembrance.

Event highlights

  • Opening remarks: welcoming words to commence the ceremony and set a tone of togetherness and remembrance.
  • Memorial tribute: a collective reading of names and a bubble ceremony followed by a moment of silence to honour those who have passed.
  • Flower planting ceremony: Participants are invited to plant a flower in our Garden of Remembrance, symbolizing growth, renewal, and the enduring impact of our loved ones. The flowers have been generously provided by the City of Orillia.
  • Musical performances: gentle, live music to soothe the spirit and enhance the reflective atmosphere.

This event is open to everyone who wishes to remember a family member, friend, or simply to support others in the community. Your presence will contribute to the collective strength and healing of all attendees.

“The community will be able to access a printable copy of all readings from the day, along with our online memorial wall where they are invited to share memories of their loved ones, online at hospiceorillia.ca/garden,” Louise Brazier added. “For those unable to join us in person, we invite you to submit your loved one’s photo, along with a sentiment, to be included on our Garden of Remembrance memorial wall.”
