Kinga 'Kay' Kriston was found dead in her Collingwood home on June 10. Police are investigating her death as a homicide.

Community members have organized a vigil in memory of a Collingwood woman who was the victim of an alleged murder last week.

Kinga ‘Kay’ Kriston, 55, was found dead in her home in Georgian Meadows on Friday, June 10, and police have since announced they are investigating her death as a homicide.

Collingwood’s acting mayor, Keith Hull, announced the memorial service at the beginning of a council meeting on June 13.

“Many of us are sad, outraged, angry, whether we knew this individual or not,” he said. “Kay Kriston was a member of our community… a fellow realtor within the town and the region and somebody who was well-loved and well-liked.”

Police have charged 57-year-old John Collins, of Orillia, with first-degree murder in connection with their investigation into Kriston’s death.

Collins was scheduled to appear this morning (June 13) before the Ontario Court of Justice in Collingwood via video. His next court appearance has not yet been confirmed.

None of the allegations have been proven in court.

A cause of death has not been released as the investigation continues.

According to Hull, colleagues of Kriston are planning to gather at Sunset Point on Tuesday evening (June 14) at 9 p.m. near the Inukshuk for a vigil.

“(Kriston) leaves behind a daughter and I have no words to express… what she must be going through today.," Hull said.

Hull said he has heard Kriston loved full moons, which is why the vigil is scheduled for June 14, when there will be a full moon.

“If you are able to come to Sunset Point and show your support, I know it would be appreciated,” he said.
