Rock was alive and well Friday night as Canadian guitar hero David Wilcox tore the roof off The Ranch in Barrie with his six-string virtuosity, and the 1,000-strong audience packed in shoulder to shoulder loved every minute of it.
With more than 50 years of stage experience, Wilcox unsurprisingly played his Fender six-string effortlessly, and the sold-out crowd ate it up.
Gone was his trademark natural wood-coloured, custom Fender Telecaster, and in was a black Fender Jaguar.
He tore through his vast catalogue of hits such as Bad Apple, Layin’ Pipe, Hot Hot Papa, Breakfast at the Circus, and many more.
Riverboat Fantasy and That Hypnotizin’ Boogie closed out the show.
Opening act the Carl Rundown Band, from Innisfil, entertained the welcoming crowd with a mix of original songs, along with well-executed covers of songs by The Tragically Hip and Our Lady Peace, among others.
Wilcox hits the stage this summer at his usual haunt, the Kee to Bala, on Aug. 11.
