Early-morning fire destroys boarded-up Orchard Point home

Orillia deputy fire chief says blaze is not considered suspicious; damage to single-storey home is estimated at $200,000

An early-morning fire destroyed a boarded-up home in Orillia's Orchard Point area, just off Atherley Road, Thursday.

When Orillia firefighters arrived on the scene at 3 a.m., they found a "fully-involved fire in a single-storey" home, said Orillia Deputy Fire Chief Chris Ferry.

The house was not occupied and was boarded up, said Ferry, who estimates the home sustained about $200,000 in damages.

There were no injuries and Ferry said the fire "is not considered suspicious."

He said investigators determined combustibles piled next to a heater ignited, causing the fire.

Ferry said 13 firefighters battled the blaze and were on scene until about 6:30 a.m.
