An Oro-Medonte couple’s persistence has paid off after they won the second-prize $58,051.40 in the Aug. 7 Lotto 6/49 draw.

Retirees Richard Chesworth and Penny Witteman have been playing the lottery together for about 20 years.

“I scanned our ticket with the OLG app the morning after the draw,” Witteman said in an OLG news release. “I stared at the winning message, repeating, ‘OMG,’ over and over again. I couldn’t wait to tell Richard.”

When she shared the news, Chesworth thought, “Is this real?”

“It turns out it was. This is fabulous,” he said. “This prize is sure to be life changing. We’re very fortunate.”

Chesworth plans to pay bills, while Witteman will put some of the winnings toward dental work “to enhance her smile.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Food Basics on West Ridge Boulevard in Orillia.
