Fire Prevention Week will kick off Saturday at Home Depot

The Orillia Fire Department is urging families in Orillia to “Look, Listen and Learn.”

This year’s Fire Prevention Week, which runs from Oct. 7-13, will focus on preventing fires before they happen, testing early warning devices and preparing a quick exit plan.

“Fighting fires before they happen is our most effective tool,” said Orillia Fire Chief Ralph Dominelli.  “Be aware of potential fire hazards; know what to do if your smoke or carbon monoxide alarm activates and make sure everyone knows two ways out.”

To share this important message, the Orillia Fire Department will be participating in a Fire Prevention Week kick-off event with Home Depot in Orillia.

Many community partners with a focus on safety will be attending. Live demonstrations will include a real structure fire, a home sprinkler demonstration and fire extinguisher lessons.
