Fireworks cap a 'perfect' Canada Day in Orillia (8 photos)

Thousands jam into Couchiching Beach Park to watch the fireworks that capped Monday's day-long Canada Day celebrations

Thousands of people jammed into Couchiching Beach Park Monday night to find that perfect spot to view the fireworks display that capped Orillia's Canada Day festivities.

There were lots of "oohs and aahs" to be heard among the booming of the pyrotechnics.

Earlier, Coun. David Campbell said Monday's celebration in the park was “a perfect day. The Sunshine City has come through with sunshine and the amount of people I’ve seen so far here is awesome.”

The day of activities, which included the popular 'Wheelie Great" parade, a Canada Day parade, a midway, a children's village, a vendors' village, entertainment at the Rotary Aqua Theatre and free cake, among other events, attracted thousands of people to the park Monday.

All of it was the product of a tireless group of volunteers on the Canada Day committee that made the event a reality.

"We are so grateful to all the volunteers who are here today, but we are also grateful to the volunteers who work behind the scenes," said Brian Hare, chair of the committee.
