Mark your calendars, book lovers. The Orillia Public Library is set to host its highly anticipated annual Big Read Finale on Saturday, Nov. 16, featuring Loghan Paylor, author of the 2024 Giller-longlisted novel The Cure for Drowning.
Whether you’re a longtime fan of the Big Read or a first-time participant, this event promises to be a memorable celebration of creativity, community, and conversation.
For the past 18 years, Orillia’s Big Read has united readers with a shared literary experience, and this year is no exception. The Cure for Drowning — a tale of love, loss, and courage in 1930s southern Ontario — is our 2024 Big Read title, and we can’t wait to dive deeper into this unforgettable story alongside its creator. Loghan Paylor will join us in person to talk about their writing process and answer your burning questions. If you’ve ever wondered what goes into crafting powerful, transformative stories, now is your chance to find out first-hand.
This illuminating literary evening comes with more than just stimulating conversation — you’ll also be welcome to enjoy a glass of wine and light appetizers, all included with your ticket. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., giving you the perfect chance to mingle with fellow book enthusiasts before the main event kicks off at 7 p.m. Copies of Loghan’s book will also be available for purchase on site from Manticore Books.
So, get ready to celebrate the magic of storytelling, meet a celebrated author, and raise a glass to another successful year of Orillia’s Big Read. Tickets for An Evening with Loghan Paylor are $25 and are on sale now at the library’s checkout desk.
