Global Pet Foods Orillia makes healthy donation to dog rescue

Local store provides $20,000 worth of dog food to Finding Them Homes; 'This makes a difference and allows us to use our funds for medical care,' says volunteer

Global Pet Foods Orillia donated $20,000 worth of dog food on Tuesday to Finding Them Homes, a dog rescue based out of Barrie, which serves northern Ontario.

Global Pet Foods Orillia owner and president Diana Sim said the donation was something she wanted to do out of the spirit of giving.

“I figured, at this time of year, it’s a good time to give, especially with COVID-19 cancelling a lot of fundraising events for Finding Them Homes,” she said.

She said it was important for her and the Global Pets Foods Orillia team to not only donate food, but top-of-the-line, nutritional food that will help dogs stay healthy while living in foster care.

“A lot of these dogs have never really had any good nutrition prior to being brought in by Finding Them Homes, and that’s what we are all about here at Global Pet Foods. We offer healthier choices for animals and pets,” she said.

Trista Lawless, a volunteer and board member with Finding Them Homes, said the donation will make a big difference for the organization.

“COVID has made so many challenges for us where we can’t get out into the community to fundraise and spread awareness like we normally would,” she explained.

“We have several high-medical-need dogs in our care at the moment, three of which (require) surgeries around the $10,000 mark, so this makes a difference and allows us to use our funds for medical care.”

Lawless thanked Global Pet Foods Orillia on behalf of Finding Them Homes. She also encourages the community to continue to shop locally and support businesses that are helping animal rescues during this difficult year.

“Support the businesses who support us because it makes the wheels turn, and it really does make a huge difference,” she said.
