Ariana Rizzo, Grade 8 student at Monsignor Lee School in Orillia, has been selected to serve as a Legislative Page at the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from May 28 through June 7.

She was selected from a field of applicants throughout Ontario. She and her father will stay in Toronto for the two week assignment.

During that time she will serve as a messenger on the floor of the Legislative Chamber, meet key parliamentary figures and learn about Ontario's parliamentary system of government.

She spent a day at the Legislative Building recently, preparing with 20 other students from across Ontario for their roles.

Pages are involved in a number of activities. They will deliver messages and water for the MPPs in the Chamber, take classes in legislative processes and mathematics, and work directly with key players such as the Sergeant at Arms and the Speaker of the House.

They are also immersed in learning how bills are made into law and how debate takes place in governments.

The Legislative Page Program is open to students in Grades 7 and 8. Each session offers opportunities which can be found on the Legislative Assembly's web site.

The next application period begins in June for Grade 7 students and in November for Grades 7 and 8.

For additional information on the Legislative Page Program or this page's involvement, contact the Legislative Page Program at 416-325-7457 or at [email protected].
