A Gravenhurst man has been fined after being found guilty of illegal hunting.
On Nov. 7, 2023, conservation officers were conducting a wildlife decoy operation on private property on Parkers Point Road near Gravenhurst in response to complaints of unsafe hunting activity and trespassing on posted private property.
The Gravenhurst man saw the decoy and shot at it twice from inside his vehicle, said the Ministry of Natural Resources. He was arrested on site.
Tony Schell pleaded guilty to hunting while trespassing and discharging a firearm from a conveyance. He was fined $4,000 and was handed a 10-year hunting licence suspension.
The case was heard in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on May 8.
