Living Green Barrie congratulates the winners of the 2nd annual Green Business Awards. As Barrie's only registered environmental charity, Living Green initiated these awards to promote the eco-friendly choices made by local businesses.

Congratulations to Green Bowl Foods in Barrie and Parklane Landscapes in Orillia!

Green Bowl Foods, winner of the Green Business Awards, was founded by two food scientists tired of seeing good food go to landfill. They create nutritious, ready-made meals using spent brewer’s yeast and carrot and spinach pulp from breweries and juiceries. They also use undersized quinoa from Canadian farms. As members of the Upcycled Food Association, they are committed to sustainable practices and aim to educate other companies on using overlooked ingredients.

Parklane Landscapes was the winner of the Green Business Improvement Award, given to a business who has made a change to improve their environmental impact. Operating for over 50 years, they committed 20 years ago to lead in stormwater management by designing gardens that retain water instead of overwhelming the storm system. They focus on planting native species, encouraging clients to reduce lawn areas, and incorporating rain gardens.

Living Green Barrie would like to congratulate all the nominees for such noble endeavours. Other nominees included a distillery, a travel company, and a refillery. Georgian Bay Spirit Co. created a cardboard bottle to reduce transport emissions, Animal Experience International is a B Corp certified company offering animal-related travel experiences, and Oh Beehive encourages customers to bring their own containers for household essentials.

The awards were handed out at Living Green’s annual gala in Springwater Park catered by Eclectic Cafe and culminating in a sing along bonfire led by Brett Caswell of Choir Revolution. Living Green would like to thank their title sponsor Jackie Ramler - Raymond James Wealth Advisor and the sponsor of the Green Business Awards, Busch Systems.
