Hardy hikers enjoy excursions to local trails (5 photos)

Members of the Orillia chapter of the Ganaraska Hiking Trail Association enjoy hiking all season and welcome newcomers to join in the fun

For many hardy members of the Orillia chapter of the Ganaraska Hiking Trail Association, there's no such thing as bad weather.

And, in all seasons, they can be found enjoying area trails.

November and December are typically transition months in this part of the world. It's often frosty, the ground is hard and wet and covered with slick leaves. But that challenge is part of the fun of hiking at this time of year.

"We come prepared with bright colours in case of hunting, poles to steady ourselves with uncertain footing, and wet weather gear. By the time you huff up one of those hills, you’re warm," says Carol Strickland, who helps organize the local treks.

Recently, hikers from the area enjoyed the Simcoe County Forest tracts around the intersection of Line 7 and Bass Lake Side Road East; it's one of the favourite areas to hike for the local outdoors lovers.

Members of the Orillia club also enjoyed a recent excursion to the Sheldon Lake area within the Queen Elizabeth Wildlands Provincial Park.

The club welcomes new members. For more information, visit the website
