Below are five area events among the many happening this weekend:

Community Candlelit Vigil

A Community Candlelit Vigil in honour of the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women takes place on Friday at 5 p.m. at St. Paul's Centre. The event honours the 14 young women who were tragically murdered in the Polytechnique Montreal massacre on Dec 6, 1989, and reflects on the countless others affected by gender-based violence.

Afternoon Christmas Concert

The Community Children's Choir takes to the St. Paul's Centre stage at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets cost $10 for adults and 5$ for children six and over. Children five and under are free.

Orillia Terriers

The Orillia Jr. C hockey club host the Innisfil Spartans at 7:30 p.m. at Rotary Place in West Orillia. The Terriers continue their quest for a North Carruthers Division championship.

Ugly Sweater Dance Party

An epic celebration of all things wonderfully tacky and fabulously festive. The first annual party is taking place at ODAS Park on Saturday from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. for a 19+ crowd,
