Some local hikers have come full circle — in a manner of speaking.
Members of the Orillia Ganaraska Hiking Club braved the cold to hike in the Rathburn Forest in Ramara Township Saturday.
This is a section of the Orillia club’s trail that is generally only hiked in the winter due to the wetland nature of the forest.
This weekend hike completed a series of hikes led by Pat Tuero that formed an "end-to-end" hike of the Orillia section (total 68 km) of the Ganaraska Trail, which took place over the last year.
End-to-end hikes are not scheduled every year — in fact this is the first in several years.
Many hikers complete the entire 500-plus kilometres of the Ganaraska Trail by doing it section by section over a period of years. This is just another hook for hikers — if the sheer joy of getting out into nature weren’t enough, said a club official.
