Hikers enjoy 11-km trek, brush with nature, waterfowl (3 photos)

Hikers stumbled on 'a juvenile Great Blue Heron as it was fishing in the midst of a pair of Mallards and several Canada Geese' during trek up north

Fall is a great time for a hike.

Members of the Orillia Ganaraska Hiking Club headed north this weekend to enjoy the great outdoors at Limberlost, just east of Huntsville.

"Though the day was cold, the morning mist made us pause to take in the scenery on one of the lakes where we startled a juvenile Great Blue Heron as it was fishing in the midst of a pair of Mallards and several Canada Geese," said Carol Strickland, a volunteer with the local club.

She said hikers complete an 11-kilometre hike on several lake loops on the property.

"It was a perfect day for a hike," she said.

All are welcome to join in the hikes. For more information, visit www.ganaraska-hiking-trail.org under “Find a hike” for future hikes.
