NEWS RELEASE
HOSPICE ORILLIA
*************************
Every year, Hospice Orillia hosts the annual Candles of Remembrance Ceremony, where community members come together to pay tribute to those no longer with us.
Although the ceremony has been conducted virtually for the past two years, the 2023 event will be held in person on Thursday, Nov. 30, with a virtual Memorial Wall also available.
“We are looking forward to welcoming the community back to Creative Nomad Studios, for the ceremony,” Louise Brazier, Hospice Orillia's bereavement coordinator said.
“Recognizing the challenges of the holiday season, especially for those grieving, we want the community to know that they are not alone and that Hospice Orillia is there to support them. It is through these communal moments of reflection that we affirm the enduring bonds that connect us and find resilience in the face of sorrow.”
As a Community Hospice, Hospice Orillia offers grief and bereavement support through various services, including the annual Candles of Remembrance ceremony. Attendees can expect poetry readings, live music, and light refreshments. This year, they also have the opportunity to create a memorial token in memory of their loved ones.
“Coming together as a community to remember those who are no longer with us is a powerful and essential act, fostering a collective sense of support, shared memories, and a reaffirmation of the enduring impact that each individual has had on the community,” Brazier said. “This ceremony serves as a testament to the interconnectedness of our lives, offering comfort and a sense of unity in navigating the intricate tapestry of loss.”
In the midst of global challenges, the call to pause and reflect becomes more crucial than ever.
Participants are invited to submit a photo and sentiment of their loved ones for inclusion on the virtual Memorial Wall can be made through the online form at www.hospiceorillia.ca/candles.
“We are endlessly thankful for the support of our Candles of Remembrance backers, particularly acknowledging the Casino Rama CREW Festive Fund and the Community Foundation of Orillia and Area for their invaluable contributions,” said Amanda Tevelde, communications, fundraising, and community relations specialist. "Our ability to host the annual Candles of Remembrance is solely made possible by the generosity of their donations.”
The 2023 Candles of Remembrance will occur at Creative Nomad Studios, 23 Mississaga St. W., on Thursday, Nov. 30, with doors opening at 6:15 p.m. For additional information or to RSVP, visit www.hospiceorillia.ca/candles.
