Thanks to a local church and a big helping of volunteers, more than 300 people enjoyed a meal with all the fixings today.
St. James' Anglican Church had two at-capacity sittings for its holiday tradition - a free Thanksgiving meal.
Without volunteers, this event would not have happened, noted church officials.
And this event is more about the great food.
“We’ve noticed it’s moved more toward a social opportunity. People need people, ”said Christine Hager, chair of communications ministry at St. James'.
The church offers free dinners at Thanksgiving and Christmas because “it’s the Christian thing to do,” she said, but added the events are open to people of all beliefs, and the only religious component is the saying of grace before dinner.
“We consider the entire community to be our family, and we invite the community to come and break bread with us,” she said.
