Ice heave damages docks at Orillia boat launch

City will remove docks and assess damage when ice melts

The city will be removing docks from the boat launch at Centennial Park after they were damaged by ice.

The floating-style docks have been in place for more than a decade “with no issues,” said parks supervisor Stan Cleaveley.

“With the warm spell last week, the lake level rose considerably and heaved the ice up, causing what we see in the picture,” he said. “Once the ice melts, the dock will have to be placed on shore and assessed for damage and then repaired.”

The extent of the damage and the cost associated with repairs is not yet known.

“The dock will be assessed as soon as it is safe to be moved to shore,” Cleaveley said.
