Intense seismic event shook houses in Sudbury area: report

Residents in the vicinity of Garson Mine reported an intense seismic event on Sept. 2 at around 4: 30 p.m.

Residents in the vicinity of Garson Mine are reporting a rumble shook the ground on Monday afternoon at around 4:30 p.m.

Social media posts from residents in Garson, Falconbridge, parts of New Sudbury, Coniston and the Stinson areas, and scattered reports in Hanmer, all reported a rumble, with many comparing it to the sound of thunder and saying it seemed more intense than the usual seismic events experienced in the area.

Several users commented that the shaking occurred before the usual blast time of 5 p.m.

“House shook badly on Radar Road,” one social media user posted.

“Dislodged my backyard deck by about 3 inches from the house!” wrote another.

The Earthquakes Canada section of the Natural Resources of Canada website tracks seismic events across the country. As of publication at 6 p.m. today, the site had no official word on the seismic event being reported.
