Singer Ward Cornforth, who has family ties to Orillia, leads the Johnny Cash Tribute coming to Orillia Opera House for the first time this fall.
Johnny Cash, the country legend and American poet left his mark upon many millions of fans including Ward Cornforth.
A lifelong musician, Cornforth 53, has dedicated his musical career to keeping Cash’s music alive for the last 10 years with his Johnny Cash Tribute show.
The Johnny Cash Tribute show, We Walk The Line, will be performed at the Orillia Opera House for the first time on Oct. 20. The band covers over 50 years of Johnny Cash music and includes duets performed with Johnny's life-long partner June Carter.
The show in Orillia has special meaning for Cornforth because he spent his entire youth visiting his grandparents who lived at Bass Lake.
“They were always very supportive of my musical pursuits and were active in the Orillia community for years,” said Cornforth.
His grandfather built his permanent retirement home on Bass Lake where the family cottage was located for decades.
The concert performance features Cornforth as a 1960s-era Johnny Cash and includes Johnny’s biggest hits Ring of Fire, Boy Named Sue, I Walk The Line, Folsom Prison Blues, Hurt and the famous duet with June Carter, Jackson, among other classic songs.
From theatres and festivals to showrooms and remote First Nation communities, audiences have reveled in this captivating, respectful and fun show. Ward also incorporates historical accounts and personal anecdotes about the Man in Black throughout the concert.
“The players in the band are all from Ontario and we proudly present the Man in Black's music as fans, for fans,” he said.
