Lagoon City’s Pier One Resort is set to re-open next week for the first time in almost two years.
The exterior of the property has undergone a facelift and features a new roof. The resort also underwent a "soft renovation" focusing on the rooms that face the waterfront. They are now fully equipped with new beds, new mattresses, and are freshly painted.
The resort's garden-view rooms have received a deep cleaning and now sport new mattresses.
Operations Manager Ana Figueiredo says the resort no longer has a medieval theme and she believes guests will be "pleasantly surprised" to see the facility's clean and fresh nautical look.
“Everyone who comes to visit us is just wowed and they think it’s a spectacular new look," she said.
The resort's most charming fresh element is the skylight in the front foyer, she said with pride. Next year, rooms will undergo an even more in-depth renovation, Figueiredo says.
“It’s coming into progress,” she said. "It’s spectacular.”
While the future of the resort is bright, it was closed for almost the entire past two years due to the pandemic. Figueiredo says it was challenging to book rooms, but the result of the struggle was well worth it.
“We have a very strong team,” she said. “I do believe we are on track for a really good start as people are anticipating our opening.”
Figueiredo says there are a good number of room reservations, dinner reservations, and event functions already booked for the summer months.
“It has always done well here,” she said. “But it has always just been seasonal in the summer.”
Pier One Resort is set to stay open year-round, Figueiredo says. The business will hope to cater to people who snowmobile, ski, and ice fish during the winter months.
“It’s such a necessity,” she said. “We have one of the biggest ice fishing zones in all of Ontario, and we need to cater to people who stay here in the winter.”
Figueiredo says the business plans on flourishing by tackling the winter season like nobody else in the area.
The resort officially opens on June 1. Kayak, canoe, paddleboats, and aqua trikes will be available to rent for the summer season. Guests can also enjoy the heated indoor pool, sauna, jacuzzi, private beach, and shore wall for boaters who want to dock at the resort, she said.
